Mining takes place in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Tanzania. De Beers is represented in Botswana by the mining company Debswana, a joint venture with the goverment of Botswana, formed in 1969. A similar partnership is Namdeb in Namibia, which was formed in 1994 as a joint venture between De Beers and the goverment of Namibia.
